Lara Tavares, Founder, CEO
Lara is the founder and CEO of Sky’s the Limit Youth Organization. Having grown up in a family surrounded by computers and access to digital information, Lara realized early on that a computer was a valuable resource that offered limitless opportunities. Passionate about technology and its importance in education, Lara felt it was her calling to offer a solution to the Digital Divide in Canada. Lara is responsible for STL operations, implementation, outreach, administration, sourcing of donors and fund development. Targeting students in under-resourced areas, Lara works hand-in-hand with other non-profit organizations to gain first-hand knowledge of which students legitimately require computers. When a student is identified as a potential recipient, Lara stops at nothing until a computer is delivered into his or her hands.
A graduate of Concordia University in 1995, Lara’s previous career included 10 years of experience in Internet/Intranet content creation and management, web site coordination and project management, working for Bell Canada, the Ontario Ministry of Labour and the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy.

Having grown up in rural Nova Scotia, I know first hand what it is like to not have grown up with a computer in my house. Luckily for me, having a computer at that time was not nearly as important as it is today. I work for an IT Staffing firm and I see on a daily basis how computSonya is Sky’s the Limit’s Publicist. She informs the media to create awareness about the importance of providing under-resourced children with computers. Having to constantly communicate with her clients via email, Sonya realizes how the lack of access to current technologies can be a disadvantage. STL thanks Sonya for representing our organization.ers and computer literacy are not only necessary, but fundamental to a youth’s success as they grow and make their way into the work force. It brings me much joy to volunteer for Sky’s the Limit because I really see the difference a $200 contribution (the price of a re-furbished computer) can make. I’ve volunteered for Sky’s the Limit for the past 2 years now, predominantly helping with the fundraising effort. As the organization continues to grow, I’m committed to helping in whatever capacity I can to ensure that any under-resourced youth who wants a computer has one.
